Copied from my Letterboxd review:
I've always felt an affinity with this movie because it was released during the year I was born (I'm old and proud). RETURN OF THE JEDI has Finale Syndrome: It's big, it's bloated...but like another Finale Syndrome movie (RETURN OF THE KING), it works, because the audience also doesn't want to let go of the world. And in my case, I don't want to let go of this world and watch the prequels again! (I will deal with it.)
I agree that the Jaba sequence was too long, but I did enjoy Leia's attempt to free Han Solo. I loved the Ewoks and I don't care!! After watching so much blob and his muppets, we deserve little cute dog-like creatures. I howled at Obi-Wan's posthumous hologram exposition that Luke and Leia are twins.
Rant: Come on, that news required way more reaction from Luke and Leia!! "I've always known" -- what?? They kissed in the last movie! They had so many weird, longing looks that Han thought there was "something" there. Only Han's reaction made sense!
I didn't expect Luke to be all "I can fix him" about his dad in the last hour, but it was a satisfying ending...for now. I screamed at the prequel cameo in the last scene, clearly added decades later.
